Psalm 90 // Your Days Are Numbered
“Psalm 90 is a prayer of Moses reflecting on the fragility of man and the eternality of God.
The people come from dust and return to dust, and in all of that God remains the all-knowing and all-powerful Creator and King.
The frailty of man is represented by people made from dust, working in clouds of dirt. Their work is hard and fruitless. God is depicted with an outstretched arm holding the mountains in his hand, showing that He is the One who “brought forth the whole world” and that “from everlasting to everlasting [He] is God.” The psalm ends with a cry for God to establish the work of the people’s hands.
Our work is nothing if not given to the Lord, but in Him, there is eternal significance in what we do. This is shown by the light coming down on the people who stop to praise and cry out to God. In Christ, we have been given light and life forever!”
